Various personal stuff

If you live in Europe you are bound to have experienced being rejected, when trying to watch your favorite TV show on a US web-site – something in the line of “We are sorry but your IP seem to come from a country outside the USA” bummer – this is annoying as some US TV stations have cool tv shows available for free viewing (but restricted to the US).

ultrasurf9So, as I have mentioned before you can use the TOR network (http://www.torproject.org/) to proxy around this problem – but TOR is an install package that may not always be appropriate to install on a company/school pc etc, along comes UltraSurf (http://www.ultrareach.com/) a simple little portable application you can put on your USB stick.

UltraSurf will once it is started open a browser and you can browse the net with a US based IP (by proxying your traffic) thus giving you access to US based webservices.  Speed is not great but seemed acceptable and I managed to get an ok mediastream from ABC (note you may have to restart the browser when installing activex components).

A word of caution, I would not share creditcard or other confidential information on a proxyed connection, you never know who/what is inspecting your HTTP traffic, HTTPS/SSL/TSL traffic should be secure though (but still think about what you are doing).

ateamHow neat is this, the A-Team series from the 80’s (1983) will be ‘revieved’ for a movie, sadly not with the original actors (most known is likely Mr. T., but also Dwight Schultz is very well known for his roles in Star Trek) but with a new cast and perhaps with a newer up-to-date finish ala 2010..

I for one found the show very entertaining, it was so quirky and fun – no one ever got hurt in the show, and the ‘punchline’ was always the same – build something out of nothing (a bit like McGyver) and help the underdog..

I have never really done much research in the field of Internet Radio, guess I have enough to occupy my mind elsewhere 😉  but I just stumbled across what seem to be a quite cool Internet Radio App and I just might give it a spin; it’s free, it’s easy/intuitive, it can record and it has a LOT of preset radio stations world wide.

During Christmas I visited a friend of mine, he had just invested in a “Western Digital WD TV Live HD Media Player” and ran a quick demo for me..  It actually looks quite nice with a lot of useful features, it streamed perfectly from his NAS even HD ran perfectly and it had YouTube support and whatnot 🙂  The remote seemed a bit toy-ish but was very responsive and worked much better than how it looked..

I have the XBOX 1 (Classic) with a boot chip and use XBMC on it, so to me there is little need to invest in this new box, that is until I get a HD tv then things might change 😉

Like to know more about this box?  Here’s a YouTube review for you;

NORMAL_FITIf you live in Denmark then this link may be interesting. Have you ever been annoyed about the problems in finding shirts or polo shirts that really fit, either they are too small or baggy.

Anyway of cause you could always go to a tailor and have them fitted or custom made, however the price has always been ridiculous, till now;

http://www.tailorstore.dk/

Here you can “create” your own clothing by typing in your measurements and going through a wizard, and viola clothing that FIT you and even at a very fair price.  Very good and intuitive web-shop even.

Tnx to my Kidbrother Peter for the tip.

I totally agree, Bono – stick to singing!, although I have the greatest respect for Bono’s effort in the third world issues and U2 music in general, then I still think Bono is missing the greater issue when thundering on about music piracy and ISP’s responsibility in the matter.

The music and film industry need to rethink their strategy – hard as it may be, it is a totally different reality we live in today compared to the CD/LP age.

A good response to Bono’s latest outburst here;

Tonight I am going for something new, I am going to the “Teatro alla scala” in Milano or rather I am going to watch the opera Carmen in the local THX certified cinema via a live transmission from Milano.  I am very exicted and looking forward to this, quite an interesting approach and besides the technical aspect this will also be my first opera, all very exicting.

More info here; http://www.operaincinema.com

Update Dec 8th 2009.
So it was yesterday I was at the Opera, my first, what is the verdict?  Well the technical part was ok, transmission was fine both sound and picture was excellent, furthermore it was not a ‘stillshoot’ – thus the cameras was operated all through the show so focus was always at the actors, both good and bad I’d say (it ended up looking too much like a TV show).  As for the opera part I think it was ok, guess I am just more a musical kindoff guy (give me Mamma Mia anytime) but interesting never the less.  All in all an ok experience, nothing more nothing less, for opera lovers I think the experience would have been quite good.

Now this is something a bit out of the ordinary on this blog, but it does sound interesting 🙂

This service offers to create the contact so you can rent a home or maybe just an apartment at some private person’s home just about anywhere in the world.

What a cool idea for the next summer vacation, this way you will get REALLY close to the native culture, or maybe one should even rent out the spare room in the basement 🙂  Cool..
