Cool gadgets, we must all buy one…

Bummer, just as I finally had decided on the Iphone 4 over the androids I’m hit with continuing bad luck, I want the White Iphone but due to reasons beyond me these are apparently VERY hard to make!?  Ehhh, why??  White color/Black color how hard can it be!?

“Statement by Apple on White iPhone 4
White models of Apple’s new iPhone® 4 have continued to be more challenging to manufacture than we originally expected, and as a result they will not be available until later this year. The availability of the more popular iPhone 4 black models is not affected.”

AAAAAAARGH seem to be the right word here…

You may, as I have missed the news about a new XBox 360!?  Well, here is a preview;

Noise cancelling headphones are really cool, what they do is to monitor the background noise around the user and then sends inversed noise into the headphones thus canceling the noise.  This technique is among other places used on aircraft carriers to protect the ears of the flight crews, and many frequent fliers use them to remove the annoying humming when flying.

So, the technology is cool, however two problems exist with most noise cancelling headphones;

  1. Price (they are often very expensive)
  2. Power (usually these headphones require an extra battery pack for the noise cancelling part which is bulky and unsexy)

But these Blackbox i10 headphones seem to have something going for them, 1) Not THAT expensive (still the price is not for the faint hearted) and 2) The power issue has been solved in an excellent way by using the ipod 30pin connector (which does require an ipod or an iphone)..

I read on a Danish news site some time ago that a researcher claimed that the antenna design on the new IPhone 4 could cause problems, this video seem to support his claim;

Quite sad, I was considering buying one of those nice devices but now I am not so sure….

More on the Iphone antenna problems (with a humoristic touch)…

I was beginning to consider shifting my old trusty Sony Ericsson cell phone with a smart phone, basically I do not NEED one but as it is annoying me that I can’t use my IPOD Touch online when I’m out, and thus I am playing with the thought of going smartphone (also to stop my brothers wife from seeing me as a neanderthal for not having a smart phone ;-)).

Should it be an IPhone 4 or the HTC Desire that is one of the big questions, one that likely can’t be answered before the Iphone hits the stores..

One thing however that seemed cool to me was when I heard that the HTC phones could be used as WIFI hotspots, basically this would mean that you could (not that I would) skip your broadband at home and just use your phone as your wifi hotspot…  Sadly it would seem that this requires some kind of hacking/jailbraking/rooting your phone which does not seem too appealing..

One thing that seem to way for the Iphone is the option to buy a fully featured ‘offline’ GPS suite (not using 3G data connection), sure HTC has Google navigation but I dare you to use it when abroad 🙁 you’ll be ruined as a result of the map data transfer..  and there does not seem to be any ‘offline’ GPS software for the Android phones!? (well this is not 100% true, there is something called http://www.mgmaps.com which caches Google maps, but from reading about it it does not seem convincing)..

Anyway, I’m still thinking 🙂

Here’s something about the ‘Rooting’ you need to do to get an Android phone to work as a WIFI hotspot (tethering);

Update!
Christian and Rhys was kind enough to inform me that there does indeed exist several GPS solutions for Android (see comments)..
Eg. http://www.alk.eu.com/copilot/android/

Update2!

It would seem that an update to Android 2.2 will offer some cool things to the Desire, it should allow for the phone to be used as a HotSpot (Yeah) and allow video recording in 720p (HD)… Very interesting indeed..

Are you one of those guys that just dig retro design?  then you should order your next keyboard, screen and whatnot here;

Quite facinating, I don’t know about the writing comfort though.

My colleague  Jesper was struggling with his HTC 740 phone in order to remove the shutter sound, at long last he found a solution;

Edit the phone’s registry via a registry tool eg. this
and remove the x.wav sound like shown here in an after shot.

On my version (same model maybe a different build) it was a whole lot easier;

  • Start camera
  • Select menu
  • Browse down (about 3 screens) to “Shutter sound” and simply turn it off.

Are you just dying to own a licence plate with your own name on it?  Sure you could buy this at the motor vehicle office at a rediculous price, but now there is a cheaper alternative 🙂

http://www.showplate.se/butik/index.php?cPath=26&osCsid=2c0b95f4d767d1a0020f02f709c539e0
Will make your own plate for 200-275 SEK (as opposed to approx 6.000 DKK at the motor vehicle office)

But beware, should you choose to use it for other than novelty use (eg. actually place it on your car) you could be in for a heavy fine 🙁 cops never had a sense of humor 😉

Another gadget I stumbled across and found interesting is the “Parent/child alarm”;

Helix Child Alert
Parent and Child alert is designed to reduce the chances of a child wandering away, unnoticed in crowded locations.
The two part alarm will alert the parent when the child moves more than 5-10m from their side.
Also includes a panic button for the child to send an alert to the parent / guardian.

Price around £10

Find it on www.ebay.co.uk or here

Now this is cool although a bit pricey at around US$ 35.000, your very own drone helicopter with an attached digital camera, you can then take neat pictures from 50 meters altitude…  maybe spy a bit on that neat blonde that lives next door when she is at the pool 😉 oh well we can all dream 🙂
